John Vinnicomb
John is the son of Arthur Vinnicomb and Joane Lendon was born in 1649 and baptised on the 19th of August 1649 in Crediton in Devon.  It is not known when he died.

In this year, 1649;
  • 30th January, King Charles is beheaded outside the Banqueting Hall in Whitehall in London;
  • 19th May, England is declared a republican state.
Crediton is a market-town and parish which takes its name from its situation near the river Creedy.  It was for many years the seat of a diocese, of which a collegiate church founded there in 905, and dedicated to the Holy Cross, became the cathedral.

There is another baptism for a John Vinnecomb, the son of Giles and Wilmote, in Crediton on the 12th of January 1646.  However it is believed that this is not our John.

On the 1st of September 1674 John and Joane marry in Crediton.

On the 12th of November 1676 the couple baptise a daughter, Mary in Crediton.

Then two years later they baptise another daughter, Joane on the 3rd of October 1678, tragically ten days later Joane died on the 13th.

Children of this marriage were:
i.    Mary Vinnicomb (1676 1741)
ii.    Joane Vinnicomb (1678 1678)

Originally there had been other children but that is now in doubt.  On the 9th of May 1676 there is a record of a baptism for John Vennicombe whose parents are John and Jane in Hittisleigh in Devon.  Hittisleigh is about nine miles west of Crediton.  But since this would be another baptism in 1676 it is believed that this John is not related, and have therefore removed him from the tree.  Other children have been removed as they were born or baptised in Hittisleigh or Holsworthy which is some 35 miles west of Crediton, which would be a considerable distance in the 1600s.

The list of those removed are;
i.    John Vennicombe (1676 )
ii.    William Vinnicomb (1678 )
iii.   Joane Vinnicomb (1685 1685)
iv.   Elizabeth Vinnicomb (1686 )

Joane Godfree                       end of lineage
Joane was born in about 1650 presumably in Devon.
